Legitimate Interest & Contractual We will only keep personal information for legitimate business interest for the promotion of the Maltese islands within the UK & Ireland and as a matter of maintain business relationships within the industry in order to maintain business activity.


Your Consent will be required in order to provide certain services or to process special categories of data. The Malta Tourism Authority understands ‘consent’  to mean that it has been explicitly and freely given, specific, informed and unambiguous indication of the data subject’s wishes by which he or she by statement, or by a clear affirmative action, signifies agreement to the processing of personal data relating to him or her.

The Malta Tourism Authority will email all data subjects held on our database to ask for their consent to stay on our database in order to receive information about the Maltese Islands. You as data subjects will have the opportunity to stay on our database by opting in. Failure to opt in will mean that your details/information will be removed from our database and you will no longer receive further communications from The Malta Tourism Authority.

Profiling and Automated Decision Making

  • No activity information including user behaviour data and any transcripts or other records are collected.
  • No Information is collected automatically from use of our services.

We will endeavour to keep your information accurate and up to date and not keep it for longer than is necessary. In some instances the law sets the length of time information has to be kept, but in most cases The Malta Tourism Authority will use its discretion to ensure that we do not keep records outside of our normal business requirements.


We may pass your personal data on to our service providers who are contracted to The Malta Tourism Authority in the course of dealing with you. Our contractors are obliged to comply with our policies to keep your details securely, and use them only to fulfil the service they provide.

Conosco Ltd – Conosco Ltd provide IT support services to us and have access to all of our computer systems and network.

Mail Chimp – We use Mail Chimp for our direct marketing activities. This is where we hold our database. The information that is kept are your name, surname, business address, job title, contact phone number & contact email address.

Data transfers to 3rd Countries

Exporting data for hosting or processing outside the EEA as well as access from outside the EEA to EU hosted data.

Is personal data transferred outside the EEA? – Yes. We use Mail Chimp to host our trade & M.I.C.E. database which we use to send data subjects marketing & promotional information. Mail Chimp are an American company and host our database in the cloud which is not held within the E.U. however they are protected by a privacy shield.

Respecting your Rights and choices

    • You can remove content by clicking the unsubscribe button on our emails or you can send us an email to advising us that you wish us to remove your content.
  • How can a user suspend, restrict or hide their account?
    • You can suspend, restrict or hide your account by sending us an email to advising us of your wishes.

    • You can send us an email to advising us that you wish us to amend or erase the data we hold.
  • How can a user get access to their data?
    • You can send us an email to advising us that you wish to have access/confirm what data we hold about you. There may be a discretionary fee for providing this information to you.
  • Can users opt-out of uses for their information for purposes other than provision of the service?
    • You can send us an email to advising us that you wish to opt out of uses for your information or you can click the unsubscribe button on our emails.
  • How can a user opt-out of any marketing communications?
    • You can send us an email to advising us that you wish to opt out of any marketing communications or you can click the unsubscribe button on our emails.
  • Can an account be deleted?
    • You can send us an email to advising us that you wish your account to be deleted and we will delete your information from our database.
  • How long will specific account details be retained post account deletion?
    • Once your information has been deleted we will not retain your information for any period post deletion.
  • How are data portability requests made and handled?
  • How can the user withdraw their consent to further processing?
    • You can send us an email to advising us that you wish to withdraw your consent to further processing or you can click the unsubscribe button on our emails.
  • How long will my data be kept for?
    • We will keep your financial/contractual information on our database for 6 years plus current year, and any other information about you, including marketing assets, for 3 years plus current year.
